Hooked to WhatsApp. Can we take advantage of it? Dunya Martínez

The aim of this study is to identify the motivations and reluctance to use cross-platform instant messaging applications such as Whatsapp or Telegram both teachers and students have in Second Language Acquisition (SLA).

The present study is carried out within the framework of a larger PhD dissertation where an analysis of how apps like Whatsapp, that lack of any pedagogical intention, can be used as a support for different classroom activities, group-work and pair-work assignments; for independent work; for enforcing student-centred learning and the principles of individualisation; forming one ́s personal opinion, and being able to express it on topical issues.
